Since I began working in games in 2014, I have loved showcases. Whether in the audience thanks to some memorable trips to E3, or watching in the wee hours of the morning from home, shared moments of excitement about upcoming games have always energised me.
Over the past decade, I saw more highly curated showcases pop up, and I enjoyed those even more! From Wholesome Games to the Latin American Game Showcase, I loved that these showcases allowed me to find and play games I would otherwise likely have never seen. But being from New Zealand, and now living in Australia, the number of ANZ-made games on those big world stages seemed low compared to the wide variety of amazing games I knew were being produced locally.
I personally wanted to feel more connected to these big, global gaming showcase moments, and I wanted local ANZ developers to feel more fairly represented. And eventually I bet that if I felt that way, maybe others did too! And so, Frosty Games was born. A platform for spotlighting the coolest upcoming and recently released games made in Australia and Aotearoa NZ.
In 2020 I founded Pixel Explorers Club out of a desire to get through more of my indie game backlog, and so my “book club but for short video games” was born!
PEC exists to remind you to press pause and play. We celebrate gaming as a meaningful and nourishing past-time, and encourage each other to prioritise playful moments in our busy lives. Each month we play a lovingly hand-selected indie game that's under 10hrs to finish. If you want to join the fun, just pick up the game and play! It’s that simple.
